The kelpie, also known as bäckhästen in swedish or the nokk, is a shapeshifting spirit from the Irish and Scottish folklore. When a kelpie is on the surface, it takes the form of a beautiful white horse. If a person rides on it’s back or pets it, the person gets stuck to it and the kelpie takes it’s victims to their waterly demise where the kelpie devoures their remains and throw their entrails to the waters edge.
It is said that if anyone gets hold of a kelpie’s bridle, the person will have command over it and any other kelpie. Other say that removing the bridle from the kelpie allows that person to have control over it.
