But emperor scumbag (Erix) and his army attacked the gaias home where a few gaias were enslaved and killed and 10 years later, they eventually went extinct.

In reality, a few gaias actually survived and manage to escape and they returned to the ruins of their home where they rebuild their lives and kept themselves hidden. unfortunatley, Mara and Keir didn’t know that their kin survived. they also have eternal youth.
